THANK YOU!

The third Annual Hog Farm Celebration & Friends: In Open Celebration

September 22-23, 2023 was an incredible gathering of community and connection. Please stay tuned for 2024 dates.

The Hog Farm Celebration is an intimate weekend gathering of our extended family and friends on the site where the we hosted the the Hog Farm Pignic. This is a great family-friendly party and a fundraiser! We are opening our beautiful home at the Black Oak Ranch to our community and aim to raise some money to help keep the Ranch in business and thriving. In 2023 we raised funds to help repay a large loan we needed to build a new bridge into our event facility and to rebuild our collective gathering space, the White House, which burned down last year.

Great Music. Light show. Games. Bingo for prizes. Excursions. Costumes. Hog Farm Film Festival. Bring your own tent/van/RV or camp in one of our beautiful tipis!

Delicious, locally sourced meals prepared with love included in the ticket price as well as a nightly happy hour (beer and wine). What a deal!

This is a small, intimate event. Tickets are limited so please purchase in advance.

Please note: We do not have volunteer ticket trade opportunities at this event as it is a fundraiser and every ticket counts. Everyone buys tickets and contributes a few hours of time during the event. Thank you for your support!

World Mouth Harp Performance: Infused with a mastery of rhythmic diaphragm, trigger, and tongue control, Hog Farmer, Neptune Chapotin’s signature style of Mouth Harp playing ranges between dreamy melodic modulations and percussive trance beats saturated with resounding acoustic reverb.

Campfire Jam: If there's gas left in the tank, we will be tending the fire for a late night Hog Farm campfire jam. Bring instruments, but please leave your drums at home!

ACTIVITIES

  • Nightly pre-dinner happy hour (Friday & Saturday):
Enjoy beer or wine and delicious locally-sourced and lovingly made appetizers while listening to our afternoon musical sets. This is a great way to wind down into the evening and connect with everyone at the event.

  • Hog Farm Film Festival: Curated by Hog Farmer and extraordinary artist, Dorje. Stay tuned for this year's theme.

  • Bubble Magic!
Tom Noddy is Bubble Magic! He will be performing his unique bubble and comedy show. Perfect for all ages!

  • Labyrinth walk with Wavy Gravy:
Join Wavy on a morning walk through our beautiful Labyrinth. Wavy will guide us through a unique meditative experience.

  • Bingo for Prizes:
One of the traditions of the Hog Farm is a fun game of Bingo for Prizes! Bingo for Prizes became a staple of the kids room backstage a Grateful Dead shows which was lovingly run by the Hog Farm. Join Wavy for this fun tradition!

  • Hog Farm Storycorps:
What have you always wondered about the Hog Farm (where are the pigs?). What amazing tale do you have from back in the day? How about WAY back in the day? What exactly did the Hog Farm do at Woodstock? What is the history of the ranch property and how did we end up here? What kinds of other parties and events have we had here and what cool things happened during them? We want to tell stories about the Hog Farm that not necessarily everyone would know (within reason, folks) and that recall how we all met, traveled and settled here at the Ranch. Join us!

  • Piney Woods Hike: Join Hog Farmer, Bob Barsotti, on one of his favorite, not so strenuous, hikes at Black Oak Ranch. Bob will guide us to a hidden animal trail leading to the piney woods where we can walk the creekside trail back to camp. Along the way he will tell some tales of the history of this special part of Black Oak Ranch. Duration 45-60 minutes.

  • Release the Oaks! Forest Restoration Hike: Join fire ecologist and Hog Farm family member, Eamon Engber, for a short hike through a Douglas-fir/black oak forest that was recently thinned and pile burned to reduce fire hazard and restore forest composition. We will tour the 30 acre project area and discuss forest resiliency, fire hazard, and fuels management in the face of a changing climate. We will also identify trees and understory plants, talk fire ecology, and discuss management options for small landowners. Mostly flat except for one arduous, but short (100) meter hill at the start.

  • Irene's Organic Farm Workshop: It's a group effort! Spend Sunday morning before brunch with Hog Farmer, Irene Engber, for a unique workshop on her working commercial organic farm located adjacent to the event venue. Irene will guide the group through a working session on the farm. Activities may include helping to care for the flower garden, picking apples from the orchard, planting garlic, and harvesting seasonal vegetables. Talk shop with Irene about organic farming and bring any questions you might have. Take home some of Irene's famous granulated garlic (limited amount available for purchase) and/or cut some flowers from the farm. Please bring garden snips (if you have them) and a bucket for flowers. This workshop should last about 1.5 hrs. Plan to get a little dirty!

  • Hippie Trivia!
Join us for hippie trivia on Sunday morning during brunch! Do you have good trivia questions? Let us know! Or just bring it to the event.

  • Kidz Zone:
Miss Rossi will be hosting our Kids Zone! She will be hosting a creative space for kids to play and make art.

  • Handmade Crafts Fair:
We will have a wonderful selection of handmade crafts at our crafts fair on Saturday afternoon. Come support your local artists! Please bring cash as crafters will likely not be able to accept credit cards. If you've purchased a ticket and are interested in participating in the craft fair, please email: joaniebatik@gmail.com.

  • Mouth Harp Workshop w/ Neptune:
Also known as a Jew’s Harp or a Jaw Harp, a Mouth Harp is a small, vibrating instrument that is plucked to make a sound, which in turn is amplified and modulated with the cavity of the mouth. Playing for close to twenty years, Hog Farmer, Neptune Chapotin, ranks amongst the world's most acclaimed Mouth Harpists, and is a medalist of the title of World Virtuoso. Traverse the fundamentals of Mouth Harp playing in an interactive, comprehensive tutorial through the beginning basics, spanning essential melodics, rhythm, & percussive breathing. Workshop Level: Easy beginner through intermediate, with no prior musical sense or experience necessary. Mouth Harps will be provided for use during the workshop. Neptune will also perform on Friday afternoon.

  • Mosaic Tile Group Art Project:
Join Hog Farmer, Sharon Paltin for a unique group art project. Sharon has made the mosaics you see on the Black Oak Ranch and will lead the workshops. During the mosaic workshop we will use glass, tile, and mortar as we play and make a durable and aesthetic mosaic piece for the ranch. In two couple-hour sessions we'll try to design, stick down pieces, clean (let dry), then next day grout, a new group-effort sign for the ranch. Sharon will be offer her workshop after lunch on Saturday during the Craft Fair and finish up Sunday morning.

Please also let us know if you have a mobility access need and you are sleeping in your vehicle. There are no hookups available.

If you plan to shop on your way to the event, stop in Willits or elsewhere. Laytonville may not have exactly what you're looking for. Please plan to store any personal food in your vehicle to avoid critters making unwanted visits to your tent or tipi.
